Tabitha Alkire works for Washington County Sheriff’s Office and is the Elder Safe Program Coordinator. The Elder Safe role provides crime victim services for adults 65 years and older, outreach for older adults, and runs two programs for endangered at-risk individuals wandering away from their homes, Project Lifesaver and Help Me Home. I have worked with crime victims for over seven years; my past work has been at Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office as a Victim Advocate in the major crime unit and at Hillsboro Police Department as a Domestic Violence Program Assistant. I graduated from Pacific University with a bachelor’s degree in Politics and Government.

The Elder Safe Program with Washington County Sheriff’s Office provides an overview of scams and fraud targeting older adults. In this presentation, we will cover why scammers target older adults. How to identify types of scams and scammers. Tips for outsmarting scammers and, lastly, how to report scams and other resources. The Financial Exploitation presentation will include examples of scams in our region and recommendations to prevent fraud from happening.
